Ketamine Addiction

Ketamine, originally developed as an anesthetic, has emerged as a substance with a complex and ambivalent profile. On the one hand, it is increasingly studied and used as a rapid-acting antidepressant in treatment-resistant depression and as a therapeutic adjunct in pain management and psychotherapy. On the other hand, chronic and uncontrolled use has become a significant public health concern, especially in parts of Asia but also in European nightlife and club settings.

This module provides a comprehensive overview of ketamine’s pharmacology, clinical uses, and risks, with a special focus on its addiction potential and the challenges it poses to individuals, treatment systems, and society.

This section provides a selection of diverse resources intended to support your preparation for and completion of the quiz.
